The 28-year-old rider, hailing from Arizona, succeeded his UAE Emirates teammate Tadej Pogacar as the world champion in the event.
McNulty’s performance secured the biggest achievement of his professional career to date. His victory marks the first time a rider representing the United States has won the men’s blue riband cycling event since Lance Armstrong earned his lone world title in Oslo back in 1993.
The race in Montreal featured several high-profile contenders, including pre-race favourite Remco Evenepoel. However, Evenepoel was unable to add a second gold medal to his tally, paving the way for McNulty's triumph.
With this outcome, McNulty brings the world championship jersey back to the United States after more than three decades, concluding the major global championship event in Canada with a milestone result for American cycling.
